Oliver's third day at school

Was cancelled due to burst boiler. The cold snap must have been some strain on the system. Not a bad thing mind, as Oliver was absolutely knackered with all the goings on and he started footie lessons too. At least he's sleeping well...

Oliver's second day at school - comment and analysis

There was much avoidance of putting on socks and shoes this morning and asking if we were seeing Anne (like yesterday before school). I think it was Oliver's way of saying he was slightly apprehensive - understandably - about going to his second day at school.

But although he said he didn't want to school in the car, once there he was fine and put his coat against his name, took his name badge to put on the wall and his flower name badge on the washing line (?) and then wandered off to sit at the table to eat lunch. At this point, I made a swift exit, without saying goodbye but not wanting to upset the apple cart.

On Pip and my return, the sole comment from the teacher was 'much better today'. And I know no more about what he did for 3 hours. How weird.

Oliver's first day at school - comment and analysis

Greeting by headmistress on arrival for pick up at 3.30pm was "my, he has got a temper on him hasn't he?". Then had blow by blow account of the huge temper tantrum he threw when he got separated from his lunchbox and I left. It's hard to say which event tipped him over the edge, but for vanity's sake I'm going to say me leaving did it.

It apparently took every member of staff unsuccessfully trying to calm him down, before Mrs Head persuaded him to sit down on a chair (apparently sitting at the table was too difficult for him) to eat his lunch.

Once settled, he had a good time playing with the other kids and although his sharing skills were in short supply according to the teacher, he came home with a big smile on his face. He went outside to play 'What's the time Mr Wolf?' and depending on who he's talking to, he got to play Mr Wolf.

No need to ask if he had any letters for us, he came out and immediately handed me an envelope. All excited that it was some kind of school trip/drawing my darling had done, found it to be the invoice for this terms fees.

Final word. On way home in car after our celebratory smoothie in Farnham, Oliver announces he 'loved school' and had a 'lovely day'. Not all bad then.

Oliver's first day at school

Our happy (ha ha) son went off to school today with his monkey lunchbox (filled with marmite sandwiches, kiwi, banana, cheese, yoghurt and a fruit bar), complete with shoes on the wrong feet.

He insisted upon carrying his lunchbox and school bag, despite not quite being able to manage carrying it.

He was very excited about going to school 'all on my own' but when the time came he got a little anxious. Suffice to say the last thing I heard walking out the door was him crying 'Mama, Mama'.

We'll see how it goes....

Mama's thoughts

Oliver starts nursery school tomorrow. Three afternoons a week at the local Montesorri. He is very excited: more about going with his lunchbox, than actually going to the school itself, but we figure that's a good start.

Mama is probably more anxious than he is, but that's normal right?

The Asquiths in town

The Asquith gang came for lunch and we met them afterwards to play silly games and open Christmas pressies... Oliver played his first game of charades and answered far too many of the junior quiz questions for anyone's liking.

"Second word, third syllable, sounds like..."

Got it!
